Orin Swift 'Eight Years in the Desert' Red Blend California 2020
Heady notes of brambleberry and plum preserves flow from the glass. Clove and black pepper follow closely in the second wave. The palate is voluptuous with dense red fruit and a long, drawn-out, silky finish. This wine is meant for today, so why wait?
Dave Phinney has been batting .400 since day one and it seems he’s only warming up. He’s a force of nature that turns everything he touches to gold. He began with the happy mistake of the wildly popular ‘Prisoner’ red blend in 2003 and after instant success, he’s on to new ventures within Orin Swift, knocking it out of the park year after year with obscure Cabernet-Zinfandel based blends like Papillon, Palermo, and now ‘Eight Years in the Desert’. Every vintage of ‘Eight Years’ is a unique blend of California vineyards, and each vintage comes with a custom label. The ‘Eight Years’ in the title refers to the time he spent writing his business plan after selling the Prisoner label. There will only be eight unique labels produced, each spending eight months in barrel, and it will only last about eight seconds in your glass.
