2017 Joseph Phelps 'Innisfree' Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Named after Joe’s favorite poem ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’ by William Yeats. Similar to calm and serene lake in Ireland this wine is subtle to start with fresh blue fruit, ripe cherry and a touch of spicy oak. The body opens up with great acidity, bold fruit and tannic structure. This drinks well now and will continue to hold its own for a few years.
Joseph Phelps Vineyards has been turning out some of the most noteworthy wines in Napa Valley since they opened the doors in 1973. Only a year after opening they were the first winery to produce a ‘Bordelaise-style blend’ in Napa Valley. They’ve led the valley with other ideas like growing and producing Syrah as a singular varietal. Concepts that are second nature nowadays were brought to fruition by Joe Phelps. They’re at it again with this overly drinkable Cabernet Sauvignon that meets our everyday standards; fresh, fruit-forward, price-savvy, and downright delicious.
