2017 Domaine de la Vougeraie Corton Charlemagne
Always labelled simply as Charlemagne (Jean-Claude Boisset likes to do things differently), this delicious grand cru white hails from two parcels picked a week apart - En Charlemagne in Aloxe-Corton and Le Charlemagne in Pernand-Vergelesses. The result is an intense, stylishly wooded Chardonnay of great presence and weight, showing flavours of vanilla, coconut, lemon butter and nectarine and finishing with thrilling minerality.
96 Points Decanter
The winery is Domaine de la Vougeraie. Pronounced ‘Voo-jher-aye’, rolls off the tongue like perfume wrapped in silk. The winery was founded in 1999 when Jean-Charles Boisset decided to consolidate the best 86.4 acres of his family’s vineyards into one domain. They are the largest Burgundy producer still producing small-lot wines of nuance and subtlety.
