2016 Harlan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville
With three 100-point scores from the Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, and James Suckling we know this one will go fast. Wine Advocate describes this perfection as “bold, opulent blackberry pie, warm cassis and blueberry preserves notes with hints of cigar box, and Indian spices… this brazen beauty is set to live for a good 60 years and possibly more!” 100WA, 100JS, 100JD
Harlan Estate was established in 1984 by William Harlan in the western hills of Oakville. He owns 240 acres of hillside property, of which only 15% are planted to vine. His vineyards were quite literally carved into the hills where forest meets valley floor. Harlan uncovered terroir that is unlike anything else in the world, a combination of volcanic and sedimentary bedrock. The vines are terraced or closely spaced on spare soils over fractured rock; vertical trellis with shoot positioning, 360º of exposition. It’s a perfect place for vines and according to many master sommeliers and critics around the world “a perfect wine.”
